THE High Commissions of India and Bangladesh jointly organised the Maitri Diwas event here with the support of Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS). It celebrates the foundation of friendship between both nations and Prof Tommy Koh was the Guest of Honour for the concert which featured vibrant cultural performances by artists. Indian High Commissioner H.E. P. Kumaran described the current state of affairs between both countries as a ‘golden chapter’ of bilateral cooperation that ranged from connectivity, security, trade, energy and education to space, economy, sustainable development and innovation. High Commissioner of Bangladesh H.E. Md Tauhedul Islam said that India and Bangladesh have forged a lasting friendship and that, “We set an example of a new definition of friendship and nationhood 50 years ago; something which is needed again in today’s climate.”
